Digital Distress brings awareness to the negative impacts of screen time and social media usage. Screen time from our phones, our laptops, from tablets all have consequences. In this day and age, it’s common to see everyone with some form of technology. Whether that being a mobile smartphone, using a computer for work or school, or using a tablet to design, these have become part of our everyday lives. It’s inevitable that we are going to be using them to continue with our tasks, and they can have both positive and negative consequences on our mental health and actions. Screen time and our mental health go hand-in-hand; but for the purpose of this thesis, I’ll be focusing more on the negative impacts.

This thesis will explore and present how the excessive use of smart phones, screen time, and social media can impact us negatively. Through a combination of experimentation and visually dynamic and captivating assets, this thesis will showcase and highlight how static and motion design can help bring awareness and light to topics.
